Overview of the aviaries in the Paradies-Halle and the species kept, based on signage and observation

Based on observations, animal photos and photos of signage taken on May 22 and May 23rd, 2024.

Aviary hall

Mexico - Volcanic island Socorro: Socorro dove, Western bluebird

West Africa: Hartlaub’s duck, Black-casqued hornbill

Philippines Archipelago (1 - Smaller aviary): Black-chinned fruit-dove, White-rumped Shama

Philippines – Mindanao: White-eared brown dove, Mindanao lorikeet, Mindanao bleeding-heart pigeon

African river: Eurasian hoopoe, Livingstone turaco, Emerald starling, European bee-eater, Egyptian plover, Long-toed lapwing, Yellow-crowned gonolek, Peruvian thick-knee, Spotted thick-knee, Common ringed plover

Indonesia – Sulawesi: Black-naped fruit-dove, Sulawesi Collared kingfisher, Black necked stilt, Grosbeak starling, Common ringed plover, Mindanao bleeding-heart pigeon, Red-and-white crake, Red-necked Sulawesi ground-dove, Light-vented bulbul

Madagascar aviary: Madagascar pond heron, Blue coua, Blue-billed teal, Madagascar crested ibis, Madagascar teal, Meller’s duck

African tropical hall walk-through section: Western long-tailed hornbill, West African pied hornbill, Purple glossy starling, Blue-bellied roller, Violaceous turaco, Bruce’s green pigeon, White-crowned robin-chat, Bearded barbet, Black-winged stilt, Long-toed lapwing, Crowned lapwing, African golden oriole
 
Just a few notes as it changed a bit, or some not signed species seem to have escaped your list :)
- Australia (1 - Small aviary) also houses one Indian silverbill.
- Canary Islands (Small aviary) no longer houses a Socorro dove, and I haven't seen the quail recently either.
- East Africa also houses speckled mousebirds, but they are often hiding.
- West Africa also houses one stone partridge.

- Madagascar aviary also houses a pair of Madagascar partridges.
- African tropical hall walk-through section now also houses Eurasian hoopoe.
 
This is a great account of the birds in those aviaries! Thank you for posting! This is a very impressive and diverse collection - I've never seen a White-eared Brown Dove, Thick-billed Ground Pigeon, or a Gray Hypocolius in a U.S. Zoo.
