Interestingly, the zoo's current male (quite possibly the last male of this species remaining in captivity) is now showing a much yellow colour on its chest, which is similar to what the zoo's previous male, who passed away around 2020, showed towards the end of his life. I wonder if this is a commonly seen occurrence in ageing sunbirds, but I couldn't find any information about it online.
The colour change isn't quite as extreme as the previous male just yet, but when compared to what the current male once looked like it becomes clear that there is something of a difference.
