Those wolves sure are dark in colour, which is something that I've rarely seen in North American zoos. The vast majority of the time the wolves are greyish white in colour, with the odd black one.
One of the former directors of Hanover Zoo was a huge fan/"collector" of melanistic animals; as far as I know, some of these wolves (of the Mackenzie Valley subspecies) are descendents of that very "era".
