Wow Utani is a big fella, and his horns are something to behold (is an understatement). Reminds me of the massive horns on some of the Nth White Rhinos in old photos of London Zoo from the 1980s'.
Wow he's even older than Memphis at Perth and has been at Orana longer than
Memphis has been at Perth (or alive for that matter, + the latter was at Orana itself before Perth). Memphis is the rhino most familiar with, first ever saw or knew, so tend to reference and compare other rhinos to him even decades later.
@steveroberts Utani has reached a great age. She was one of the many first generation rhinos produced at San Diego throughout the 70’s and 80’s, several of which came to our region. Another was Mandhla (1979), who came to Auckland Zoo along with his half-sister in 1980. He died in 2007 and was another well known rhino in the region via his featuring in The Zoo TV series.
Memphis is an equally iconic rhino. His daughter Sabie is at Orana and is their most successful breeding cow to date.
