Landscape exhibit

One of the more recent developments at the Monaco Zoo. It is home to greater flamingos and a range of duck species (including common pochard & shelduck, bronze-winged duck and white-faced tree duck). The isles are home to common marmosets and cotton-top tamarins. (21/07/2024)
Thank you for posting these photos from the zoo in Monaco! This exhibit looks very nice! By any chance is this the same area that house Red Lechwe a few years ago? I don't know whether the zoo still has that species. This exhibit looks well-done and seems to be making the most of a rather tight space!

@Summer Tanager You're welcome! Red lechwe aren't at the zoo anymore. When looking at the older pictures in the ZooChat gallery, the lechwe were kept in the old rhinoceros paddock at the lower level of the zoo, which is nowadays integrated in the current hippo enclosure from 2015. The landscape exhibit is at the upper level of the zoo. Together with the larger avaries for South American species, it is by far the most appealing of the zoo's exhibits.

Thank you for the information! I appreciate you replying! This exhibit and the aviaries seem very nice. It sounds like Monaco is following the same trend as most zoos - fewer and better exhibits. In this case, better exhibits might be leading toward smaller animals overall. Thanks again

@Summer Tanager Focusing on small animals is indeed the way to go for the Monaco Zoo, just because the zoo hasn't the space the house any larger mammels in a way that is acceptable for current welfare standards (even the 2015 hippo enclosure isn't really suited for an animal that big, but it's only understandable because they couldn't find a new home for their elderly male hippo and have thus tried to improve his welfare for as long as he lives). Some of the newer devellopments show that it is possible to make the zoo into a place with some interesting exhibits, but they still have a long way to go for them to really shrug the somewhat infamous reputation of the zoo off.
