Old and unsuitable Pacific Walrus pool. In this tiny tub they once kept two walruses and at least one elephant seal. This old female was the one survivor at the time of my visit but she has since died. You can see her in the far corner.

Of course an old and suboptimal enclosure for walruses. But please remember:
Walrus 1.0 Boris lived there 1974-1999 and
Walrus 0.1 Tanja even 1974-2007 (!)
You can see Tanja in the picture. There in the shallow water was her favoured place.
When she died 2007 at the age of 32 years, she was propably the oldest walrus in captivity worldwide. So I think the enclosure can't have been so unsuitable...
