Toki 11 Aug 2024 This individual was signed as Greater Mouse Deer, but looks different from the ones I know. Definately not the Lessor Mouse Deer, due to its size.

Toki 11 Aug 2024 @PangolinLover0514 Thanks. I didn't even think about that species, but it does look similar.
Toki 12 Aug 2024 This individual seems to be a Greater Mousedeer in deed. However, the subspecies may differ from those in western zoos. This looks like Tragulus napu napu, while many other zoos have Tragulus napu rufulus. What do you guys think?

PangolinLover0514 12 Aug 2024 @Toki That is kinda unlikely due to the black strip in between the two white strips. The shade on his back is darker.

Toki 12 Aug 2024 @PangolinLover0514 Thanks for your advise. These species are really complicated! I asked the keeper in charge yesterday, and he said it was a Greater Mousedeer... Maybe it is misidentified, or from another subspecies. Trying to identify species from photos is one of the fun parts of some zoos in Southeast Asia. I'll try to take photos from another angle next time!

Toki 12 Aug 2024 @PangolinLover0514 Thanks. Javan Mousedeer, as in Tragulus javanicus? As far as I know, Javan Mousedeers are about the same size as Lesser Mousedeers. I've seen Lesser Mousedeer Tragulus kanchil in many zoos including Taiping, but this individual was significantly larger and bulkier.
