Honest question... Do you actually enjoy visiting zoos like these?
I've been to Bangkok twice, in 2012 and 2023, but there was no way on earth I was ever gonna visit Pata Zoo. I don't want to support them by paying an entrance fee, and also I would probably get really depressed by seeing the conditions these animals are kept in.
Furthermore, Thailand has amazing wildlife, so visiting zoos also never seemed the best use of my time.
@ralph When it comes to the jungle zoos of Southeast Asia, Negara, Khao Kheow, Taiping and all 4 Singapore collections add up to 7 of my all-time favourite zoos. Fantastic places and @twilighter and I saw 4 wild primate species and loads of wildlife in those zoos. As for Pata Zoo, in the past my photos have been used to help close down zoos and I’m sure that my ZooChat images will pop up on several websites in the future to help close down this hellhole. Us visiting is a positive thing in the long term as this zoo and the shopping centre appear to be on their last legs. My photos can be freely shared by those wishing to close down this zoo.

Pata Zoo has been criticized for a long time already, and it's always been notorious for being horrible. I'm not optimistic about your chances to change anything, especially since this is Asia, not the USA, and animal welfare is barely a concern to people there.
As long as Pata Zoo remains a commercial success, I'm afraid it will keep exploiting animals.
Of course I hope I am wrong and you are able to make a difference!
I am considering visiting the zoo in Managua, Nicaragua in november. There are very little sources about this zoo, but I am assuming it probably won't be great.
I'm still a bit conflicted about visiting a zoo that doesn't have great animal welfare (which I admit is still somewhat of an assumption as I haven't been able to find much information about it)
But, if I share photo's of it, it could work as an awareness campaign of sorts. Since this zoo is basically unknown on zoochat (Nicaragua doesn't even have a gallery) I could be the one to introduce it to the zoo fans, wether it is good or bad.
