Here are some facts about old animals in Japanese zoos:
Obihiro Zoo currently keeps the oldest individual bird in Japan, an Andean condor. That title formerly belonged to Green 20, Tama Zoo's oldest flamingo.
Nogeyama Zoo used to keep the oldest camel in captivity and Higashiyama used to keep the oldest female bongo.
And of course, Wain the wombat of Satsukiyama Zoo is currently the oldest wombat in captivity.
There arew three Galapagos Tortoises in Japan, and Ueno has two. The remaining tortoise is a male at Izoo in Shizuoka, named "Luck". It is said to be over 130 years old, so it is probably the oldest animal in a Japanese zoo.
@Toki Wow, he dates back to the 1890s! That was before both World Wars! Must have a lot of lore behind him being the oldest individual animal in a Japanese zoo.
