Whale Shark and Walrus at Show

This photo was taken in July 2013. Back then, the facility held two Whale Sharks that were caught in a fishing net in neighboring prefectures.

The Whale Sharks were kept in the show pool that was usually used for animal shows. During the show, the sharks were guided by staff by food to swin in the area to not disturb the show. The show animals consisted of False Killer Whale, Pacific White Sided Dolphin, Walrus, California Sea Lion, and African Penguin.

This facility held two Whale Sharks in this pool between 2010-2016, and another individual in 2018, this time in the main tank. All individuals deceased due to infection, and this facility no longer holds this species.

I wish Hakkeijima could have found a better tank for this species when they had them!

This is the worst environment for whale sharks I've seen so far.
