@Summer Tanager
I’m glad that these aviaries are still standing, as this area has seen a lot of closures, with the former Bird House, sea lion exhibit, pelican pool, and several aviaries being shuttled and/or abandoned.

Thank you for the update! I'm heartbroken to hear about the closure of aviaries! My last trip to the Birmingham Zoo was during the summer of 2014 or 2015, so I'm sure there have been a lot of changes since then.

Sorry I’m late to your comment, but the “Bird House” I was referring to was a long row of all-indoor aviaries able to be accessed by a short indoor hallway. I believe that they held Swainson’s Toucan and a few other small bird species. The toucan exhibit is pictured on ZooChat.

@AndyJ08 Your timing is great! If I have a little luck, I think I might have time to visit the Birmingham Zoo next week! I'm curious to see how many changes have taken place. I remember a building near the lorikeet exhibit that had indoor bird exhibits that were viewable from the outside through a covered sidewalk. I only recall four exhibits, but there may have been more. The last time that I saw these, one of them had a mixed exhibit of small African birds including Taveta Golden Weavers, Speckled Mousebirds, and Superb Starlings (possibly also White-headed Buffalo Weaver). I recall toucans (Toco I think) in the adjacent exhibit.

The other walk through “mini bird-house” (with the mousebirds and African pygmy geese) is still open, but the one with the Swainson’s toucan and around 3-4 other aviaries has been boarded up.
