Holotype and the only specimen of Volaticotherium antiquus, from Haifanggou Formation, Inner Mongolia, China. Dating back to Middle Jurassic, it provides the earliest definite evidence of a gliding mammal, extending the record for gliding flight in mammals by 70 million years.
