@WhistlingKite24 are these on public display or behind the scenes? I will be visiting Australia Zoo in a few weeks and would like to see this species there (I have seen them at Taronga, but I did not get a good view)

@DaLilFishie They were on-show in April earlier this year (a new batch arrived this year) in their walkthrough aviary. Currumbin of course provides far superior views of Regent Honeyeaters in their Conservation Aviaries. Let me know if you have any additional zoo (or even wildlife) targets for the south-east Queensland area.

@WhistlingKite24 Currumbin looks very interesting (especially the Orange-bellied Parrot and Chiming Wedgebill), but as I'll be based in Brisbane and without a car it may be difficult to get there - is it doable as a day trip on public transport from Brisbane?

On the topic of wildlife targets, I would very much like to see Satin Bowerbird, Green Catbird and Australian Lognrunner. Looking on iNaturalist, Mount Glorious seems to be a good spot for all three? Is this doable on public transport?

@DaLilFishie Currumbin is very doable from Brisbane and I do it whenever I visit. Catch the Gold Coast train from Roma Street to Varsity Lakes (last stop) and then catch the 760 bus from the train station. Two hours there and another two back. Dollarbirds and Black-shouldered Kites can be quite regular from the train in the more rural areas of the Gold Coast. Greater Glider is another good species at Currumbin as well. They also have a captive Green Catbird.

Mount Glorious cannot be accessed without a car and there is no public transport. However if you want rainforest birds with public transport, I have done the route to Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve in the Sunshine Coast (catbirds and logrunners are common there, not the Satin bowebirds though). This is a fantastic time of year for catbirds especially. Catch the Nambour train to Landsborough and then catch the 891 bus to Mountain View Road and it’s a twenty minute walk. The centre also has volunteers to help you with sightings and where to look.

Enogerra Reservoir is an exceptional bird and butterfly site as well within Brisbane connected to the greater D’Aguilar National Park. The occasional bowebird pops up here but not often. A quick 385 bus from Roma Street Station towards The Gap.
