Leatherback Sea Turtle (Dermochelys coriacea)

Wow! I visited here a couple of years ago when they didn't have Leatherbacks. Do you know when these rescues were obtained? Shame I didn't find out about this rescue before I moved out of Florida

@SusScrofa Since at least 2022. It's a long-term research project in which hatchlings are seasonally rescued and released.

@RatioTile Interesting, thanks for the information! I've seen a number of see nesting signs for Leatherbacks on the beaches in the area including the one across the street from the center. When you visited, did you have to request a tour to see these rescues or were they in the turtle tanks that were on display to regular visitors?

@SusScrofa There is a bird's eye view of the FAU turtle lab in one of the buildings for regular visitors to see.
