Wildbase Recovery - Tuatara enclosure

October 2024
Wildbase Recovery is a rehabilitation centre for native NZ birds at the Victoria Esplanade Gardens in Palmerston North (in the lower North Island). Many species can be viewed here during their recovery (before release) and it also houses some permanent residents. It is free to visit.

This enclosure is within their walk-through aviary, currently housing NZ Pigeon, North Island Kaka, NZ Bellbird, Red-crowned Kakariki, and Tuatara.

There is one male Tuatara in this enclosure (his head can be seen in the left hand burrow [the black pipe]). The females are in a separate part of the aviary.
