Assorted Turtle Exhibits

August 17, 2024
Species list:
  • Roti Island snake-necked turtle (Chelodina mccordi)
  • pig-nosed turtle (Carettochelys insculpta)
  • black marsh turtle (Siebenrockiella crassicollis)
  • black pond turtle (Geoclemys hamiltonii)
  • red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans)
  • painted terrapin (Batagur borneoensis)
There once was an alligator snapping turtle (Macrochelys temminckii) and a common snapping turtle (Chelydra serpentina), but it seems the alligator snapping turtle has been moved to Suraloka Zoo.

These are somewhat a incomplete and inaccurate list. The alligator snapping turtles (There are a pair) in Suraloka are most likely a brand new pair bought by the zoo or donated by private collector instead of being the same turtle that are displayed in Gembira Loka a decade ago. Are there ever any public confirmation of Suraloka having cooperation with zoos like Gembira Loka?

The list based on my visit in August (The same as @snowleopard & @twilighter!) are;
  • Pig-nosed turtles (Multiple exhibits)
  • Elseya branderhorsti
  • Elseya novaeguinae (A single individual)
  • Yellow-spotted Amazon river turtle (Unsigned)
  • Northern snake-necked turtle (Incorrectly signed as Roti Island snake-necked turtle)
  • Black pond turtle (A single individual)
  • Red-eared slider (In two exhibits)
  • Painted terrapin (In two exhibits)
  • Multiple fishes that include koi, Malawi cichlids, and a pair of vieja cichlid
