Pesquet’s Parrot Aviary

August 17, 2024
@Jonathan Harry This tiny cage should be left empty as it's insanely small for a Pesquet's Parrot and the animal has zero privacy. I wonder if the birds in these small aviaries are taken elsewhere or if they are inside the cages their entire lives...

Throughout my nearly monthly visit, this part of the zoo is always the worst part of it. I don't care if it had rarities like the Pesquet's parrot or piping crow, would you want to see an okapi in a goat pen just for the sake of having an okapi?

With the exception for ratites, African penguin, and waterbirds in open-topped exhibits, from what I could tell, most of the birds in the zoo always stayed in their aviaries after closing, especially the birds in the walkthrough aviary. Definitely hoped, due to how small the aviary is, the parrot are taken elsewhere after closing.
