I presume they actively breeding them off-display. This young pair had only been added to this exhibit around earlier this year, while a large group of young gharials were briefly displayed in Royal Safari Garden around a year ago.
Long before this, there was a single adult false gharial in the Crocodile Park that lasted until around 2018, where that area now exclusively houses saltwater crocodiles. Good to know that they actively breeds their formerly on-display species (Also done for their African dwarf crocodiles and silvery gibbons).
@Mossman Joe due to the nature and design of the terrariums, I don't think they would bother to made any significant upgrades to accomodate them not would they be able to significantly. I wonder why they didn't prefer to have the adult gharials back in the Crocodile Park.
This terrarium previously held green iguanas and much earlier a pair of Argentine black-and-white tegus, I don't think it was somewhat suitable for the latter as well.
