@RatioTile -- the L.A. Zoo no longer keeps southern tamanduas as the Children's Zoo nursery where they were held has been closed indefinitely. The light-colored one in your photo was the female, Micah, and the male, Lou, was a darker gray. They had a baby, which I was lucky to see soon after it was born. The pup was dark brown and then turned a shade of gray between its parents. I don't know the specific subspecies as the zoo generally doesn't list that much detail.
@RatioTile -- According to the zoo's published Animal Transaction Reports, one female southern tamandua was sold to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance in March and one male was loaned to the Dallas Zoo in October. However, the September report also lists one male loaned to the Dallas Zoo as a breeding recommendation. So, I'm not sure if both Lou and his offspring were both loaned to Dallas or if that was a clerical error listing it two months in a row.
@RatioTile -- I just noticed on the May Animal Transaction Report that one male southern tamandua was sold to the Cincinnati Zoo. Thus, it does seem that all of L.A.'s tamanduas have been distributed to other zoos. It's good that you visited when you did because many exhibits at the zoo are closed now -- I estimate upwards of 40%. I've been so disappointed by it that I chose not to renew my membership.
