Snowy (1983-1999) was born at Wellington Zoo and arrived as a three year old in 1986. After a prolonged integration into the community, Snowy assumed the alpha role in 1992, which he held until his death in 1999. This area is known as Snowy’s Rock because it was his favourite spot to rest/observe. His eldest son Lubutu (1993-2019) later became alpha male and also favoured this spot.
