The open moated Lion enclosure in Taronga that Arthur Reid was so impressed by and emulated with Beaumaris's Lion exhibit, is the exhibit Mary the Sun Bear lives in now (albeit half the size of with the wall dividing it that was finally removed between '99 and '00 for the Kodiak trio to have full integration with eachother; Tigers on other half of until the two pits were built in mid to late '30s, then other big cats until '85 Kodiak trio arrival from Adelaide.
@steveroberts I’m always interested to hear about the history of exhibits. It’ll be invaluable when it comes to writing a review as people are always interested to hear what an exhibit started life as. Bear pits to small carnivore exhibits is a common trend - regionally and internationally, so it would never surprise me if that was the future for this exhibit.
