Arenaria interpres 4/21/24, this bird was brought to the aquarium on January 2007 due to an injured right wing from a wildlife center in Hampton New York.
@Summer Tanager Yep he is a really old bird, the aquarium has many birds which have set longevity records I believe, currently the aviary holds a black oystercatcher that was in human care starting in 1993, a black-necked stilt starting at 2008, and a marbled godwit who came in on 1996. Not sure if they are still alive but as of 2019 2 of the common murres were at least 29 and 30. A few individuals have either passed or gone off exhibit, such as a willet who passed at least 32, and as of 2019 a 25 year old American avocet, a 24 year-old short-billed dowitcher, 18 year old red phalarope and both a semipalmated sandpiper and plover which were 19. The avocet has or had the record of longest living avocet. https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/stories/the-aviarys-amazing-senior-citizens
@splendens Thank you for posting the link to that article! I had no idea that they had so many older birds! It sounds like a great facility from the perspective of avian care and enrichment, and from the perspective of human education!
