This species is popular with 'sports' fishermen and I have been told that it is very good to eat - but I would never dare to take a hook out of that mouth
@gentle lemur I've not had the chance to eat one yet, but I've had Payara, I'd imagine they would taste similar since both are giant predatory tetras. Maybe Hydrocynus may be tastier since they readily take birds in the wild...
But I have worked with these animals professionally, and also kept my fair share of Hydrocynus, all except one. Of all of them, Goliaths are the "friendliest," and I would not dare to clean a tank, by hand, that has H. brevis (BATF). Those are mean, fast buggers, and I do mean MEAN. Bold, and would constantly snap at any fish that dares to even look at it funny.
