For those who remember back when the zoo used to have elephants and before the current African savanna exhibit, are the black rhinos in the old African elephant space and the bongo in the old giraffe space? And the hippo is where the hippo exhibit always has been?

@Matthew Guimac Parts of the San Francisco Zoo are modern like the African savanna and the 1940s era bird house that is now a modern indoor rain forest exhibit.

Other parts like the cat house, the chimp complex, and the bear grottoes have been modernized as much as possible, but still are old and arguably outdated.

@Jxckson I first went to the San Francisco Zoo in the mid-1970s, and the African elephants were in that exhibit then. I don't know when that exhibit complex opened. I assume that the SF Zoo had African elephants long before then. They had Asian elephants since the 1930s or 1940s at least, because they were still living in their original pachyderm house (where the Indian rhino is now) when the last Asian elephant left in the early 2000s.
