It's fascinating to see how this crane/ibis aviary compares to the similarly-designed architecture of the Jaguar exhibit at Artis Amsterdam Zoo or the Gelada exhibit at Blijdorp Zoo. It looks stunning, but there's also a lot of wasted space.
Unless geladas learn to fly, this is certainly a lot of wasted space. I don't know if it is still the case now, but originally blue-winged goose and Yellow-necked francolin were also kept in it, but these too are not great fliers.
@Philipine eagle Last August the blue-winged goose were present in the gelada exhibit, but according to my pictures of signage the francolins were not anymore. ZTL also mentions them as only being kept in the okapi aviary currently.
In general, I don't think birds even would use that tall flying space, since there's nothing to fly to. Smaller climbing monkeys would make better use of that space, since they can climb up the mesh
