In October 2024 Antwerp's old female hippopotamus Hermien was euthanized and her daughter Imani moved to Dublin, ending the keeping of this species at Antwerp as the indoor exhibit is unsuitable for a larger hippo group. They plan to renovate this exhibit to keep pygmy hippos in 2025.
