Japanese Badger (Meles anakuma)

Kogawa Dam, Izumi (Kyushu), January 2025
Another badger seen at Kogawa Dam in the middle of the day. It's difficult to believe that this species used to be considered a subspecies of the Eurasian Badger. Following this one along as it foraged along the trail it made me think of a miniature Hog Badger. So much so that I had to look up on the internet to make sure there wasn't some other mammal in Japan that I was misidentifying!
