very exciting to see this species still present in the US. Following the passing of the individual at Los Angeles Zoo I was worried I'd need to make it to Europe or Asia to ever get the chance to see this stunning species!
@USZOOfan42 Yes, the new magpies are living in the same habitat as the palm cockatoo, green-naped pheasant pigeon, crowned pigeons. it was the first exhibit as you go up the ramp if I recall
@King of Komodo Dragons, that’s awesome to hear! Green Magpies have started to become a new target species for me, and I’m glad I don’t have to travel too far to see one!
@BerdNerd
Sorry I do not. You can try asking DWA and see if they can give you an answer. They seem to occasionally popup with unique bird species such as when they got the Southern Philippine Hornbills back in 2023.
@BerdNerd@King of Komodo Dragons Indochinese Green-Magpies are present in the US private aviculture trade (as are Common to some extent). From what I know, there are two subspecies of Indochinese kicking around, one being one of the 'yellow-breasted' varieties and that seems to be what DWA's birds are.
The Mindanao Rufous Hornbill is also present to some extent in US aviculture.
