Nanjing Normal University holds one of largest Baiji collections in the world, with five specimens on display in their museum. Professor Zhou Kaiya, a long-time NNU faculty, had studied Baiji since 1950s. He proposed a new family, family Lipotidae, for the species in 1978, which is now universally accepted.
