American Black Bear

Big old boy, and very dark. Is this standard for Florida black bears?

I'm not entirely sure. I know the black color phase is by far the most common in Florida's black bear population. Not sure regarding the dark shade of the bear...I've only seen wild bears in Alaska, Yukon, British Columbia, and California. I've only seen light or cinnamon phase bears in BC. The bears I encounter in Alaska are uniformly dark.

I don't think this is of the Florida subspecies.

@Ituri come to think of it…I think you are right. I believe the animal was a rescue from a different state.
