Bongo (Eastern bongo) : Whipsnade : 01 Aug 2025

Tragelaphus eurycerus isaaci. Also known as: Mountain bongo. Male "Pembe" (age approx. 7yrs?) in pursuit of female "Kora" (just out of shot, left).
Browsing this, and the other shots, it’s a shame the rest of the Bongo paddock isn’t as heavily wooded as this. Every Bongo I’ve ever observed in this paddock as either stuck to the stable or kept close to the perimeter tree line facing the African hunting dogs. Despite extra planting over the years, I’ve very rarely seen them fully out in the open. Such is the species nature I suppose.
