Aug. 2025 - Japanese Giant Salamander Ponds

Are these located outside of the Reptile House?

@Grizzly Hound Treetops employee only building right outside of Africa. The boardwalk that overlooks these is accessible to guests.

I didn't know the zoo had any! Is this a new addition?

@USZOOfan42 As far as I know, they've been at the zoo for 12+ years. They were kept behind the scenes until sometime after Africa's first few phases were complete in 2013. This was once part of the Oriental Garden, and the pond was home to Koi. It was accessible by foot until Africa's construction eventually blocked the entrance. Eventually, the salamanders were moved here - but they're rarely ever mentioned on social media.
