Reconstruction of Finsch's Duck (Chenonetta finschi)

Te Papa, August 2025
Finsch's Duck became extinct before the arrival of Europeans, probably due to Maori hunting, and is known only from subfossil skeletal remains. It was related to the extant Australian Wood Duck Chenonetta jubatus. The bird at the back is a reconstruction of a Stout-legged Moa chick.
