Rock Wren and Reconstruction of Long-billed Wren

Te Papa, August 2025
The Long-billed Wren was a flightless NZ Wren which became extinct before the arrival of Europeans, likely due to the introduction of Polynesian rats by the Maori. It is known only from subfossil skeletal remains. The Rock Wren is still extant but is now largely restricted to mountains above the tree-line. Seven modern species of NZ Wrens are known, of which only two remain alive today (the Rock Wren and the Rifleman).

Are those Eurasian Skylark feathers on the reconstruction of the Long-billed Wren?
