@WhistlingKite24 It was in the Reptile House. The terrarium shared with Shinglebacks and Hosmers Skinks. I've never noticed this guy in there before, and he wasn't signed for, hence my query.
My best guess would be a particularly dark phased black headed monitor (Varanus tristis). Would make the most sense for a small black monitor being housed with those lizard species.
