Despite the sign being as visible as possible, I wouldn't be surprised if Dragons! takes the prize from Wolf Woods at the least visited exhibit in the zoo. I hear people constantly say something along the lines of, "oh there's nothing back there".
@Toledo Zoo Guide There are, the are two more (an identical sign to the one in the post, and banners on the entrance archway), and people usually say this when they're actually looking at the lemurs.
I have to say, an observation, I have never been to a zoo that named and signed so many "areas" like Cincinnati does, some with just one or two species. Dragons! Lemur Lookout, Wolf Woods Painted Dog Valley, Roo Valley, Siamang Point....It is interesting, I don't mean this as a criticism per-se, just an observation.
@SwampDonkey St. Louis goes further with this and not only are most large exhibits outside of the Antelope Yards named individually within the same area (Penguin Cove, Humboldt Haven, and Puffin Bay all within Penguin & Puffin Coast) but some individual exhibits have multiple names depending on the viewing area (Sea Lion Landing and Underwater Cove within the Sea Lion Sound attraction).
In Cincinnati, not counting Painted Dog Valley as a separate attraction since it's in Africa, the zoo currently has 22 soon to be 25 different animal zones - I think the most I've personally seen in a zoo. I also think having these smaller attractions is a great way to diversify their collection with limited space vs. Indianapolis who has 8 sections but is the same size.
@Moebelle
Interesting, I have not made it to St. Louis yet.
I will be kind of brutally honest....I loved Cincinnati zoo, it is a top level facility and the enclosures were all really nice. The food was pretty good and not crazy expensive, I did not mind paying for parking since it was covered, and the staff were all friendly. However, the actual layout of the zoo was difficult to wrap my head around and just kind of seemed haphazardly placed. I generally am a big fan of geographical layouts as well, which were present, but in a kind of jumbled manner.
