@captain alligator I'm not sure I would say there are 'few' native placental mammals in Australia, as almost half of Australia's native animal species are placentals - alongside the bats, there are numerous species of murid rodents, pinnipeds, cetaceans, the Dugong and (debatably) the Dingo.
