What exactly is the deal here? Last I heard the biodome was supposed to have elephants, hippos, chimps, etc, but construction was halted and these domestics are placeholders. When are things supposed to get back on track?
The zoo plans to open the biodome at the end of this year, but mainly without the planned animals. The zoo doesn’t have the resources to complete the final steps of the new exhibits (and the local and national government are arguing about who is responsible for the funds), so they had this idea to not leave the outdoors empty and have some species that are easier to keep until the planned, more exotic animals arrive.
