@KevinB Thanks for your comments. I did have an inkling this one was not the real article.
It may have been that around 2020 they still had perhaps South African or even the "farmed" black ostrich version. I am glad the zoo has changed from this to an endangered subspecies of the red-necked ostrich.
@Kifaru Bwana I also read in De Harpij recently that once they move the Dorcas gazelles to the smaller stable building they plan to get a red-necked ostrich rooster and a new Somali wild ass stallion. Would be great if they succeeded at breeding both (sub)species.
@KevinB, Yes ... as I subscribe to De Harpij too ... I welcomed those notes on the current planning at Planckendael. Must make a visit this year or perhaps on late winter/early spring to see all the renovations and the new entrance complex.
