Frogfish ID

Quite possibly Antennarius striatus considering the lure shaping and hints of patterning; that said frogfish are generally very difficult to identify due to the sheer amount of variation for camouflage. That would be my best guess per the literature on hand to me.

@Great Argus Thank you for letting me know. There was a sign on the tank where this frogfish was displayed, but I forgot the name when I got home. (I honestly don't know if that's true)

Sorry, not too familiar with frogfish species so I couldn't say which this is, but your best shot of an ID is looking at the shape of the esca (the 'lure') - frogfishes are highly variable in colouration and markings, so besides a few species the colour/patterning is largely useless in identification. Esca morphology however, is more consistent so it's the best feature to look at.

I think it's probably this species. (Shinagawa Aquarium is on the list)

@captain alligator It is not Antennarius pictus, that species has a very different lure and some of the morphology is wrong.

@Great Argus Sorry, but is this a different species from the one in the photo? I'll check it out when I visit again.

When I visited Shinagawa Aquarium today, I saw the signage indicating that this species was a Striated Frogfish. (Last time I visited, I missed the signage.)
