Koi (Cyprinus rubrofuscus), 2025-04-12

Are carp from East Asia and carp from Europe different species? I thought they were the same species.

@captain alligator The Amur carp Cyprinus rubrofuscus was in the past considered a subspecies of the common carp Cyprinus carpio, but is now recognized as a separate species because of genetic differences. Koi are the domesticated and selected form of the Amur carp.
