Did you see many firefinches? Back in 2019, I counted 17 Red-billed Firefinches in the desert aviary including at least four fledglings. But last year I only saw six or seven and no evidence of breeding. The Parson's (Black-throated) Finches were doing really well last year and there were several nests.
@Summer Tanager, the firefinch in this photo was the only one I was able to see. I have no idea if there any others, but I could imagine their numbers aren’t doing so well.
That's a shame! In 2019, I would have told you that the Tulsa Zoo could have produced enough Red-billed Firefinches for all of the AZA facilities because they were doing so well. But it goes to show how quickly the situation can change for a population in captivity - especially a relatively short-lived one like the firefinches.
