Santosa Oceanium Singapore, Open Ocean tank. Screencap from a video shot august 2025. This tanks holds many different species of stingray but I find them hard to ID. This individual stands out due to the broad tail, which makes it likely to be P. ater. Anyone who agrees or disagrees?

I'd be happy calling this Pastinachus, but there are several species in this genus and I don't know how to differentiate them. If ZTL calls it P. ater I'd just go with that.

Looks to me like a cowtail of some form, yes! From what I hear, “broad” cowtails are now just being referred back to the classic cowtail species, P. sephen, so you can take that for what it is (presumably more genetic testing, resulting in a merge of ray species rather than a separation).
