While I still agree that this enclosure is pitifully small for such a large, active mustelid. It will always be as memorable for being the only place I have ever seen a tayra (so far).
@Austin the Sengi My friend and I began our day at the Central Florida Zoo and planned to make it an all day thing. We passed advertisements for this aquarium on the way and after going through the zoo in under 2 hours, we decided to give it a shot. I was hesitant after hearing that, one, it isn't AZA, and two, it used to be a Burlington Coat Factory...
It actually started off as a pleasant surprise as I figured most of their displays would rival that of a pet store. Almost every habitat was carefully planned and planted... but then we got to the Rainforest and my fears became warranted. I was blinded by the sensationalism of seeing consecutive rare species for a minute but what started out as a respectful small aquarium, eventually ended as Dallas World Aquarium 2.0 in my mind. They are actually expanding beyond the Rainforest hallway, so hopefully most of these are temporary.
It will be intriguing to see how they would execute such an expansion on the limited space they have; but in its current state, it’s one of the very few facilities that I have no interest in ever returning to.
