Chlidonias 24 Oct 2025 You can get an idea of the size of the mantis from the frog... I have no idea which giant mantis are found around Broome, so any ID is welcome.

DaLilFishie 24 Oct 2025 Possibly Hierodula werneri based on what's been reported in Broome on iNaturalist?
Chlidonias 24 Oct 2025 @DaLilFishie That looks right. Two interesting links here: 1) This mantis has been recorded catching Green Tree Frogs and even a Brown Honeyeater as prey! https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1440-6055.1977.tb00077.x 2) It was originally described from the Kai and Aru Islands, and the identity of the northern Australian ones as this species "seems highly unlikely": https://www.gbif.org/species/1405984
