Subspecies ID? Masked palm civet (Paguma larvata)

Definitely Masked palm civet in my opinion, subspecific identification is hard as it's a highly variable species (and a lot of subspecies are dubious) but it's not leucomastyx as that subspecies is generally very dark bodied.

It's most likely to be ssp. jourdanii (now lumped with other subpopulations as ssp. annectens by HMW) or the Bornean leucocephala both of which have striking white faces and are native to Malaysia [jourdanii: 1, 2, leucoephala: 3, I have a picture somewhere of an individual seen in Trus Madi that also had a very pale face]

It will be really interesting if it was a Paradoxurus jerdoni, but it looks more like one of the Southeast Asian subspecies of Paguma larvata.

Yes, it is true that a lot of these animals have highly variable color pattern.

Paguma larvata ssp. jourdanii does seem to be a best answer from this photo.
