But you would think that in 50 years they would have been able to put in at least substrate, stones, and branches. This isn't a ape house, which would be expensive to rebuild, but a terrarium, for which you can get equipment at any pet store. I think it's simply a question of whether they want to care about animal welfare.
 
@Cyathea I should mention that not every terrarium is completely identical; for some terrariums do have rock / mulch substrate in addition to branches for some of the arboreal snakes.

You just have to take my word for it since the enclosures I shared didn’t have a reflective glare.
