Nice photo and beautiful close-up! Gophersnakes (we call them Bullsnakes where I live) have that unfortunate ridge over each eye that gives them a "mean" appearance, but just about every one of them that I've encountered in the wild has been peaceful and calm. They are beautiful snakes and I especially love the tiger-striped tail that they have.
