Nominate subspecies from the Indian subcontinent, which have the black bare parts around the eyes also extending to the base of the bill.
The bird in the front is an male, while the female is in the back. Adult and healthy male birds will show a striking plumage similar to that of an strawberry, hence the market name "strawberry finch".
