The cubs are 4,1 (Nelson, Nawiri, Nibalo, Naju and Tawanga). Nawiri and Tawanga are still in the pride, Nibalo and Naju are their own group and Nelson now lives at Thüle.
I would say, just one lion is too much for germanys worst lion enclosure. ( maybe its on the same level with munich, karlsruhe and Magdeburg )The Truth about Hagenbeck is, a bad zoo is hiding behind a famous name, that's it. But nevertheless, Hagenbeck isn't too bad, they really do have good exhibits also, so the guinea pigs village.
But the exhibit for ringtalied lemurs, I couldn't belive it, after I've seen it for the first time. I've worked with elephants a long time, but what Hagenbeck is doing with their elephants, has nothing to do with a modern welfare of these highly intelligent and dangerous animals.
I know, Hagenbeck is very popular here at zoochat,but I don't care about that, because I've worked as a zookeeper and I see zoos from another perspective with totally diffrent eyes. And of course, I know a lot of things which other people don't, so it's impossible to every zookeeper with that knowledge and a good eye for the animals needs to have a good opinion of Hagenbeck. But, nevetheless, I really do have a little bit of hope for the upcoming new polar exhibit, it can't be more worse than the old Eismeer, it can't.
